Events

Folk Art

Each week some of Vesterheim’s Folk Art School instructors share their talents at Java John’s. It’s very informal – just sit down and watch, ask questions, or maybe join in.

Note: These are volunteers who are there often, but may not be demonstrating their crafts every week.

Time: 11:00-ish to 2:00-ish
Monday: Textiles (nalbinding, spinning, skinnfell)
Tuesday : Wood Carving
Thursday: Figure Carving
Friday: Rosemaling

Fly Tying

On Wednesdays Dave Smith and his band of fishers bring the fine art of fly tying to Java Johns. Stop by to see what this is all about and maybe hear some fishing stories, too.

Wednesday: 11:00-2:00

Wall Art

This month Java John’s walls are featuring the art of Mary Ann Gloe.

Mary Ann was commissioned by the RC&D with a grant from the Iowa Arts Council to paint scenes from Iowa’s state parks along the scenic byways of Northeast Iowa.

You can further explore Mary Ann’s work at her studio during the Northeast Iowa Artists’ Studio Tour.
